Vietnam Veterans of America Central New York Chapter 103 Scholarships
VVA Chapter 103 awards scholarships yearly to elegible and selected Chapter 103 members in good standing or their children or grandchildren who meet the qualifications set forth in the standards developed by Chapter 103 and shown below.
The three awards are $1,000 for one full-time student and $250 awards for two part-time students.
The scholarships will be presented at the Installation and Awards Banquet during April of each year.

Standards for the Central New York Chapter #103
Vietnam Veterans of America Scholarship Award
This memorandum shall serve as the standards for applicants to submit their name for an opportunity to receive a $1,000.00 scholarship for full time students or be one of two possible recipients of a $250.00 scholarship for part time students. The rules are as follows:
An applicant must be a member of the Central New York Chapter #103 Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) in good standing for a period of not less than one year prior to application or the child or the grandchild of said member. (Good standing shall mean a member whose dues are current and meets the standards set by the VVA National Organization to be a member. Proof of DD-214 is required prior to receiving a Scholarship.)
The $1,000 scholarship is designed to assist a student who is registered or accepted to an accredited University, College or Technical School as a full time matriculated student. Proof must be furnished of the status of the student in regards to registration or acceptance.
The two $250 scholarships are designed to be offered to students attending as a part time student at any accredited University, College or Technical School. The course load must be for a least one subject per semester to include the summer semester. Proof of course registration of the student must be furnished to establish the status of the students.
The applicants for either scholarship must fill out a standard application form furnished by Chapter #103 and submit the proof previously stated. This application must be given or mailed to any member of the Executive Board or Board of Directors or mailed to our address prior to the February Membership Meeting of the year the request for scholarship is for (meetings are held of the third Thursday of every month) so that it can be reviewed and processed in a timely manner.
All applications shall be given a distinct and individual number and divided into full or part time files. The number shall serve as the number to be placed in the lottery drawing for the three scholarships which shall be made during the March Membership Meeting and the results posted. The winners shall be notified as soon as possible.
The scholarships shall be awarded at the Annual Installation Banquet.
In the event that there are no applications then the scholarships shall be withdrawn for that year. It is the right of Chapter #103 to grant more scholarships in the event that is becomes desirable or necessary or to withdraw scholarships for the same reasons but the amount of scholarship monies per scholarship remains unchanged. No recipient can apply for further scholarships. They may then directly apply for a grant from Chapter #103 or the Central New York Vietnam Veterans Foundation.

An applicant must be sponsored by a member or be a member of VVA CNY Chapter #103 in good standing for a period of not less than one year prior to this application or the child or grandchild of said member.
An applicant must provide a copy of a DD-214 of the sponsor or member to be considered for a scholarship at the time of application.
The applicant will check which scholarship they chose to apply for:
____ $1000 Scholarship for a full time student that was accepted or registered at an accredited university, college or technical school.
____ $250 Scholarship for a part time student whose course work consists of at least one course of study per semester to include the summer semester.
Proof must be provided to establish the qualification for the requested level of scholarship. Supporting documentation must be provided by the institution that the applicant is attending or about to attend.
Please provide this application and supporting documentation to Chapter #103 prior to the February monthly meeting which is the third Thursday in February to allow time prior to the drawing at the March monthly meeting. Notifications will be made following that meeting.

2011 SCHOLARSHIPS
VVA Chapter 103 awarded five scholarships during the April 09, 2011 Installation and Awards Banquet:
A $250.00 scholarship was awarded to:
Kimberly D. King -- Kimberly is 19 years of age and lives in Constantia, NY. Kimberly is the granddaughter of Jim Edick, a member of VVA 103 since 1990. Kimberly is a freshman at Hobart & William Smith College where she studies Psychology and Asian Studies.
Jeffrey P. Bronstad -- Jeffrey is 35 years of age and resides in Fairport, NY. Jeffrey is the son of Pete Bronstad, a member of VVA 103 since the mid-1980s. Jeffrey is a graduate of SUNY Oswego with a BA in Psychology. Jeffrey currently works full-time and is also a full time Master's Degree candidate working on an Education Degree at Nazareth College.
Scott M. Bronstad -- Scott is 30 years of age and resides in Marietta, NY. Scott is the son of Pete Bronstad, a member of VVA 103 since the mid-1980s. Scott is a graduate of Hobart and William Smith College with a BA in Psychology. Scott is currently part-time student at O.C.C. where he studies physical therapy.
A $500.00 scholarship was awarded to:
Ryan J. Bragan -- Ryan is 18 years of age and lived in Liverpool, NY. Ryan is the grandson of Charlie Tipton, a member of VVA 103 since 1989. Ryan is a freshman at the Florida Institute of Technology studying Aviation Meteorology with Flight.
A $1,000.00 scholarship was awarded to::
Kaitlyn M. Guptill -- Kaitlyn is 19 years of age and resides in the Town of Onondaga. Kaitlyn is the granddaughter of Bill Molloy, a member of VVA 103 since 1990. Kaitlyn is a senior at Onondaga Central High School and has been accepted to Niagara University.
The Officers and membership of VVA 103 congratulate the scholarship winners and wish them all success in their academic pursuits.
